Bikes
Why choose an electric-assist bike over a traditional bike?
Perfect for commuting without sweating or running errands. Ideal for getting in shape at your own pace. An electric-assist bike supports all cyclists, whether beginners or experienced, making rides faster and easier. Say goodbye to the dread of steep hills and headwinds that discourage many riders. In other words, a MAUI bike lets you go further with less effort and more enjoyment.
Where can I get a MAUI bike?
MAUI bikes are available at retail locations where qualified advisors and technicians can assist you with purchasing and maintaining a high-quality electric-assist bike. Our network of authorized MAUI retailers includes over 80 locations across North America.
Is it hard to learn to use a MAUI bike?
No need for a complicated start. Turn on your bike, select your desired level of assistance, pedal or twist the throttle… and you’re off! It’s more about getting familiar with your bike to better control its power. Every MAUI bike are very safe— as soon as you release the throttle or apply the brakes, the motor automatically shuts off.
Do I need to pedal to start my MAUI bike?
No, it's not essential. To start without pedaling, simply turn on the bike and twist the throttle. Of course, you can also start by pedaling, with or without assistance.
Can a MAUI bike handle all types of slopes?
All MAUI bikes provide electric assistance to make hilly rides and strong winds easier. If these road conditions are frequent or extreme, you'll get better results with a more powerful motor that has a higher torque.
What is the maximum speed a MAUI bike can reach?
Under ideal conditions on a flat surface, MAUI bikes can reach approximately 32 km/h, which is the maximum speed allowed by Canadian regulations for electric-assist bicycles.
Is there a weight limit for MAUI bikes?
Yes, MAUI bikes are designed for a maximum user weight of 100 kg (220 lbs) to 135 kg (300 lbs) depending on the model, including both the rider and any attached luggage.
Is it dangerous to ride my MAUI bike in the rain?
No. Like a traditional bike, a MAUI bike can be used in the rain. However, as with any vehicle, it's important to adjust your riding to weather conditions. It’s also recommended to dry your MAUI bike thoroughly before storing it.
Can I ride my MAUI bike in snow and slush?
Although the MAUI bike will maintain its stability and safety in cold weather, it is not recommended to use it in harsh winter road conditions, such as snow buildup, salt, and sand on the streets, for the sake of mechanical and electrical maintenance.
Can I go on seaside hikes with my MAUI bike?
Yes. However, it is essential to thoroughly clean your MAUI bike with fresh water after a seaside ride to remove any sand and sea salt, preventing any corrosion.
Batteries
How can I charge my MAUI bike?
Plug the charger into an AC 110V outlet. A red light will appear on the charger to indicate that it’s charging, and a green light will turn on once the battery is fully charged.
How long does a full charge take?
A full charge time varies based on battery capacity and charger power. With our 2 Amp chargers, it takes 7-8 hours (2024), while the 3 Amp charger reduces it to 3-4 hours (2025).
Can the battery be charged at any time, or should it be drained first?
You can charge the battery at any time since it is "memory-free," and the charger is "smart," meaning it will automatically stop once the battery is fully charged. However, it is important not to leave the battery plugged in for more than 24 hours. A charge is required at least every 2 months.
When should the battery be charged?
It is recommended to charge the battery as needed. For example, if you use your electric vehicle only for short periods and short rides, the battery can be recharged after several outings. However, if you plan to go on a long ride of 40 km or more, it is recommended to fully charge the battery. In general, if the charge indicator on the handlebar or battery shows less than 50% charge, it is recommended to recharge it. A charge is required at least every 2 months.
How should the battery be properly maintained?
It is essential to maintain your battery (or batteries) at regular intervals. This is even more important during the winter when the bike may not be used for extended periods. To ensure the validity of the warranty, the customer must follow the simple maintenance procedure in the guide.
The voltage of the 36V battery should be kept at a minimum of 30 volts. If the voltage drops below 30 volts, the battery may be irreversibly damaged and may no longer accept a full charge.
The voltage of the 48V battery should be kept at a minimum of 40 volts. If the voltage drops below 40 volts, the battery may be irreversibly damaged and may no longer accept a full charge.
Where should I store my battery during the winter or a period of inactivity?
During long periods of non-use, do not expose your battery to extreme heat (over 40°C), cold (-10°C), or humidity (rain, water, unheated garages, sheds, or basements).
It is essential never to store a completely drained battery. A lithium battery like the one in the MAUI bikes will experience a slight discharge even when not in use. Storing it with no energy left will damage the cells, potentially making it unusable or, at best, reducing its capacity. A battery damaged by improper storage is not covered by the MAUI warranty.
What is the lifespan of a battery?
The lifespan of a MAUI battery varies from 3 to 5 years, depending on the usage and maintenance performed by the owner.
Should I leave my battery on my bike when I place it on a bike rack?
No, you should never leave the main or secondary battery of your bike in their mounts when placing it on a car bike rack. The vibrations could cause the battery to come loose from the frame and severely damage it.
